Used Textiles

Used textiles require careful handling when it comes to collection and sorting. Unlike collected materials such as lightweight packaging or paper, wearable used textiles are reused to a large extent after being sorted. For this reason every piece of used textile has to be checked for recycling or reuse suitability. Even during collection it has to be ensured that the methods used do not lead to a loss of quality caused by mechanical stress or cross-contamination with residual materials or moisture, as this can prevent the reuse of potentially wearable used textiles.

cyclos provides technical and strategic consulting to the Future of Textiles Association (GftZ), whose objective is to achieve the greatest possible value creation from this waste stream.

Currently, no specific requirements regarding a high-quality and value-adding sorting and recycling exist. For the GftZ, developing and implementing uniform guidelines for a sustainable and high-quality handling of used textiles is a key goal.

More information can be found on the Webseite of GftZ.
